The heterogenous mineralogy of ultramafic deposits hosting mining operations makes it challenging to accurately determine the waste rock’s mineral carbonation potential (MCP). Additionally, significantly higher capabilities olivine than serpentine add difficulty. To address this issue, in work, a new and unique tool called MCP calculator was developed as Microsoft ExcelTM spreadsheet amount anthropogenic CO2 that given rock mass can sequester through carbonation. program estimates modal abundance rocks aid estimation. This is designed be cost-effective tailored for use by industry, utilising abundant lithogeochemical data evaluate their deposit substrate industrial operations. paper introduces calculator, outlines framework developing parameter, presents an example its application. specific assemblage investigated at Turnagain complex northern British Columbia but adjusted study comparable deposits. acknowledges using operation requires economic practical decisions beyond scope research.
